INTENT

PE enables children at Holy Trinity Primary to become active, healthy and physically confident members of society. We aim to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities to build stamina. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness, respect and cooperation. Our approach is to empower children to make links between exercise and its positive impact on physical and mental well-being.

IMPLEMENTATION

At Holy Trinity, children are exposed to a wide range of individual and team games which build character and help to embed our school values such as teamwork, resilience and respect. PE lessons begin with a recapping of previous knowledge and skills to strengthen the learning and make links with upcoming lessons. Each half term, children are taught a different sport in a competitive environment with appropriate challenge.

Our lessons focus on the following three areas:

Motor competence, rules, strategies and tactics and healthy participation. Our development of children’s fundamental movement skills will ensure stability within future physical activities.

IMPACT

To ensure consistency throughout the school, leaders ensure that:

  • Staff receive regular support in developing their skills in PE
  • Pupils experience sporting events and visits from outside practitioners
  • Learning walks provide opportunities for both formal and informal feedback.
  • Regular investment in up to date PE resources.

As a result of this, pupils make good progress from their starting points and teaching and learning is consistent.

Extra-curricular

Pupils are offered a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as cycling and scooter training, outside specialised coaching such as Surrey Cricket club session, swimming from Year 4 to Year 6 and visits from specialised sport's people.

Furthermore, through our schools’ cluster, we arrange matches in which children can participate in exciting and competitive events.
